Flo joined us in 2023 as a music leader, working with young people to write, produce and release music in genres they love. With a background in noisy electronics and a practice that explores hybridity and creative boundaries, Flo brings a distinctive and deeply contemporary approach to youth music-making.

Based in Huddersfield, Flo works as a freelance live and studio sound engineer, and brings experience across festivals, grassroots venues and academic settings. Working with hcmf//, Wharf Chambers, Simon Emmerson and Bead Records, Flo plays a key role in facilitating high-quality production and recording.

Flo is also a researcher at the University of Huddersfield, developing innovative approaches to hybrid creative and technical practice. Flo organises Float and the Huddersfield Improviser Social—platforms for experimental and improvised sound.

Alongside their work as a music leader with YYM, Flo has taught for Sound and Music, AMP, hcmf//, and the University of Huddersfield. They are passionate about helping young people realise their musical goals, offering real-world insight and mentorship drawn from ongoing professional practice.

Flo says: “I love the work I do because it allows me to support brilliant young people and help them achieve what they want musically. The flexibility of my freelance work means students are always learning from people who are active in the industry.”
