We're delighted to announce the return of the face to face, in person delivery of our Music and Mental Health project at the Becton Centre in Sheffield!

Named "Feeling Good", the project aims to use music as a tool for young people to explore their emotions, both light and dark, within a supportive and safe framework. Rebecca Denniff is the lead facilitator on the project.

Rebecca says:

We all know that making music changes lives.  It can lift our moods and help us to manage the challenges we face every day. As a community musician, I have always valued the chance to work directly with people of all ages, making music with those facing challenges in their everyday life. Over recent years I have been fortunate enough to work with Yorkshire Youth and Music in various settings, making music with young people. Our sessions have included songwriting, music creation, musical conversations and soundscapes, and through these activities, we have explored all sorts of situations, and emotions.  Above all else, we have always left the sessions feeling better.

Over the coming months, as part of the amazing work that Yorkshire Youth and Music do, I will be able to get back to making music with lots of young people who need this provision more than ever.

Living with the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic has been a challenge for us all over the last couple of years, but it is the work in these settings that has been most affected by Covid restrictions. It is so fantastic to be able to go back to deliver face to face music sessions with young people who need them the most.  I know that over the coming months, as part of the amazing work that Yorkshire Youth and Music do, I will be able to get back to making music with lots of young people who need this provision more than ever. One thing I am sure of is the fact that these young people will amaze me with their bravery, their creativity and their resilience.  So as I pack up all of my instruments, ready to head off in my car for another musical day with amazing people, I know that we will make something exciting, challenging, emotional, creative and very special.  And that will leave us all Feeling Good!

Thanks so much Rebecca for her fantastic facilitation of the project, her support for the young people involved and her inspiring words. We are fortunate to work with a number of talented musicians on our projects and Rebecca is no exception. You can find more about Rebecca and her work here.
