Sounds Like... is our monthly series of songs and music representing a different theme. And because we've moved to pastures new during the last month, we thought this would be the perfect theme for April 2022...

Curtis Mayfield gives us a lesson in moving with confidence and sure feet towards the future we want. And the players on the track give us a lesson in great playing, with the brass players in particular showing the way. This isn’t sampled and looped, they’re doing it in real time, even on this extended version, a whole nine minutes long.

All my bags are packed, I’m ready to go, is the opening line of John Denver’s ‘Leaving on a Jet Plane’, recorded by hundreds of artists over the years. Here’s John himself. Of course, we didn’t need a Jet Plane to get from Halifax to Huddersfield, though we did need Orange Camel Removers, who were great.

Camels are, of course, the great pack animals of much of the world, transporting people and things across the globe for a thousand years. We couldn’t find a song about Orange Camels, but we did find this nonsense song about ‘Jamil the Camel’, which you may also know as ‘Alice the Camel’.
