Rebecca Denniff is an outstanding music practitioner and an accomplished singer and musician, who has worked on several Yorkshire Youth and Music projects over a number of years.

Rebecca's work

Rebecca is a singer, composer, music consultant, practitioner, and trainer, working extensively with practitioners, children and their parents in a diverse range of settings across the Yorkshire region and beyond. She has devised and delivered CPD for a wide range of organisations including The Sage Gateshead, MAC, NYMAZ, Sing Up and Yorkshire Youth & Music. She leads several community choirs on a weekly basis.

Rebecca also works with visual artist David Owen to develop a Folk arts organisation, Flash Company, which seeks to ensure that these folk arts – the songs, dances and traditions – are restored to some everyday relevance for all. By presenting folk arts in an unconventional way, in an unexpected manner, Flash Company aims to reveal the presence of folk traditions in the everyday world, and help re-imagine them for a different generation.

Rebecca uses her experience of working with a broad range of musical traditions to create and adapt repertoire that enriches the musical experiences of her participants, in turn extending their cultural awareness and musical appreciation.

Rebecca has an MA in Music, an MEd in Equality and Diversity, holds a YPP certificate and is a trustee for Sound Sense, the National Professional Organisation for Community Musicians.

What Rebecca is doing now (in relation to the situation arising from the 2020 COVID-19 lockdown)

Rebecca has brilliantly adapted her music facilitation to be able to deliver her sessions to children and staff at The Becton Centre (as part of our Music and Mental Health project) online via Skype. Staff at the centre are facilitating the technological side of things, whilst Rebecca has adapted her sessions to suit workshop delivery to the children and young people involved via a screen. Rebecca has also spent her time during the first part of the Coronavirus lockdown creating a set of resources for working with young people struggling with their mental health, which we are hoping to share with you very soon!
