Music at Caring Around Sheffield Together

Yorkshire Youth & Music is recruiting musicians to work with Looked After Children in Sheffield. We are interested in hearing from multi-instrumentalists with experience, a positive attitude, and the skills and willingness to work with some great young people.

We’re looking for two musicians:

The Lead Musician; responsible for planning, delivery and evaluation of weekly music sessions at the Looked After Children’s drop in centre close to the centre of Sheffield, taking over all responsibility for ensuring that the sessions deliver great music-making to young people

Musician; responsible for delivery and evaluation of weekly music sessions

Pay rate £30 per hour for both posts.

Please apply by 12 noon on Thursday 1st November 2012

Please apply by e-mail to gail@www.yym.org.uk/, or by post to Yorkshire Youth & Music, Dean Clough, Halifax HX3 5AX. To download a more detailed application pack, please visit www.yym.org.uk/music-at-cast.

If you are interested in applying for this work please send us a CV of your experience to date; we particularly want to know about your creative music skills, and your skills in working with young people who may have additional needs. If you can send us video or audio material, we’d be pleased to see it. Our selection process will include young people’s input, so if you are invited to meet us, you will lead a short musical activity with a group, as well as meeting us for an interview.  Of course, an enhanced CRB check will be required – we will organise this, regardless of when your most recent check was undertaken.

There will be large and small group work, with occasional 1:1 support or tuition. We expect there will be a ‘big band’ approach and smaller spin-offs, and some young people may want to create music on their own.

The project is a partnership between Yorkshire Youth & Music (www.yym.org.uk/), Sova (www.sova.org.uk) and Sheffield Music Service (www.sheffield.gov.uk/musicservice).
