Our half day conference ‘Music for Young People in Youth Justice Settings’ in partnership with Sheffield University, held last week on Wednesday 4th May, was well attended and well-received.

Led by Chris Morris, currently studying for an MA in Music Psychology and who works for us on two projects, there were presentations from Professor Stephanie Pitts, from senior staff in a Secure Children’s Home, from Chris himself, and from Sara Lee of The Irene Taylor Trust on their project: Music in Prisons. There were also performances by MC Mighty and Daniel Bernard.

Delegates and discussion panel members included music leaders, representatives from Youth Justice Services, project managers, and post-graduate students at the University. There were honest conversations about the difficulties faced by the young people, and the challenges for professionals in working with them meaningfully and effectively, and we learned a huge amount about each other’s practice.

If you’d like to talk to us about the work we do with Young People in Youth Justice settings, please contact us to find out more.
