Children in Challenging Circumstances
We have expertise and a reputation for reaching the hardest to reach young people
We provide specialist projects for children in challenging circumstances.
We have expertise and a reputation for reaching the hardest to reach young people, and those in very challenging circumstances, working in partnership with schools, music services, community groups and other organisations and institutions who provide support and services to young people.
We work with the following groups of children:
Looked After Children
Young people in secure and controlled environments
Migrants, Roma or travellers
Young people who live with the effects of poverty
We also work with adults to make sure those children and young people who are in the most challenging circumstances are supported to access music making. This includes specialist training for workers in PRUs, or music activities designed to engage young people with challenging behaviour.
As the grant-holders for Musical Inclusion in West and South Yorkshire, we were responsible for creating and developing activities which met the needs of children in challenging circumstances, as well as developing the skills of the adults who worked with these children, from 2012 to 2015.
Since March 2015, we are successfully running our current series of projects under the title: ‘Musical Journeys towards Positive Futures’, which builds on all the work we have undertaken previously, including with those in more challenging circumstances.
